Exciting times are ahead for fiber artists and fiber art lovers. Innovations in Textiles 10 is happening this year after a four year interval with exhibits that will open in over 15 venues in the St. Louis region and Edwardsville and Alton, Illinois.

In 2011, I curated and participated in Collaboration: Reaping and Sewing at the Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, Illinois. The show was part of Innovations 9. I invited five artists to join me in a collaboration, all of whom share a teacher / student / mentor relationship. It was a challenge that involved trading items from our own studios with each other and integrating those things into new work. The end result I think exceeded all of our expectations and proved to be a tremendous learning experience. At the closing of the show we all pledged to continue the collaboration.

Fast forward to the present - lots has happened in the intervening years, one artist dropped out, but last fall I contacted the others to reorganize and invited a new artist. The collaboration will continue under the new title Material Revival. Erin Cork Woolfolk, Sarah Gillespie (new partner), Jo Stealey, Laura Strand, and Erin Vigneau Dimick will join me in creating a whole new body of work involving collaboration with materials from each others studios. Each of the artists has a tab at the top of the page where you can learn more about them.
